There's Nothing You Can Do About It
There’s one thing that, when it’s gone, it’s gone. And there’s nothing you can do to get it back. It’s gone forever. I’m talking about time.
We’re given a finite amount of it and none of us knows how much that is. It’s different for everyone. Some of us are given a lot. Some of us not so much. But for some reason, like everything else that’s free, we don’t value it enough. We can change that though.
As we get older the reality of having a finite amount of time becomes more and more apparent. There’s more sand in the bottom of the hourglass than in the top. For some people this creates a sense of urgency. For others, not so much because they feel like they’ve wasted so many years and take the approach of ‘what’s the point now?’
Don’t Look Back
Life keeps moving whether we like it or not. The clock keeps ticking. So there’s no reason to keep looking back at the things you wished you would’ve or wouldn’t have done. Plus, if you’re still above the ground you can probably still do some of those things.
You can’t change the past though.
You can only build the future.
But the best thing you can do is make the most of the present because that’s truly all you have.
So stop beating yourself up for something you said to someone. If you haven’t already, maybe you need to apologize. Then move on.
If you’ve been putting off improving your health, start now. Go for a short walk and stop eating junk food. It’s really not that complicated.
Maybe your relationship is suffering because you’re not giving your significant other the time and attention they deserve. Schedule a date night and make it happen.
Go in and ask for that raise you’ve been wanting. Or apply for that job you’ve been looking at.
Are you sick of working for the man and have an idea for a business? Then start setting aside an hour or two a day to work on it. The amount of time you work on it isn’t as important as the consistency you give it.
The Time Is Now
You, and only you, know what you need to do to make your future life better. You, and only you, know what you did or didn’t do to create the life you wanted to be living at this point.
It’s time to move on. Leave that stuff in the past and stop letting it hold you down like an anchor.
There’s an old saying, ‘the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time to plant a tree is today.’
Start digging.
